Jaida Ross (born 29 October 2001) is an American shot putter.[1]

Early life

From Medford, Oregon, she attended North Medford High School.[2] She later attended the University of Oregon.[3]

Career

Competing for the University of Oregon she finished fifth in the NCAA Outdoor Division 1 Championships shot put competition in 2022.[4]

In July 2023, she pipped Jalani Davis to win gold at the 2023 U23 NACAC Championship with a throw of 18.35 metres.[5]

Ross set a new collegiate record in the women’s shot put on April 6 in La Jolla, California breaking the record set by Adelaide Aquilla in 2022.[6][7] Ross broke the Collegiate shot put record again at the 2024 NCAA Track and Field West regional tournament throwing 20.01 metres in Fayetteville, Arkansas in May 24, 2024.[8] In doing so, she became the first collegiate female athlete to surpass the 20-metre mark in the shot put and just the seventh woman in American history.[9]

In June 2024, competing at the 2024 United States Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon she finished third in the shot put with a distance of 19.60 metres.[10]

Personal life

She has a twin sister called Jazzlyn.[11]
